20’s plenty action event: Histon 20 Oct 08

Histon and Impington Parish Councils ran a 20s plenty action event on The Green in Histon Monday 20 Oct 08 at 15.30. There were refreshments sand many local residents came along and gave their support.

You can download a 20s plenty flyer or a  20s plenty poster here.

It rained a lot and it was rather windy but still the people turned out. And so did the CEN. Check out a video of the event on the CEN’s web-site.

Everyone’s got an opinion about the B1049

There are people who live close to it in Cottenham, Histon and Impington, there are people who cross it and there are people who use it, on bikes, in cars and in trucks. And none of them are happy. It’s noisy and dangerous, it’s often congested and when it’s not congested users exceed speed limits, and it doesn’t serve anyone very well.

In Cottenham its a busy and noisy thoroughfare running along right through the centre of the village. In places it runs just a metre from residents’ front doors. In Histon and Impington it bisects the community presenting a barrier between one half and the other. And down at the A14 junction it becomes a bottleneck delaying commuters on the one hand and offering a dangerous route into Cambridge for cyclists.

It’s not a great road and ’something must be done’ but the County Council seems disinclined to do anything so it’s time that we bring everyone’s opinions together and make a case for change. This is what this blog is about, enabling anyone who has an opinion about the B1049 to express it so that such a case can be made.

Over the next weeks we will focus on different sections of the road. When you have an opinion join in. Comment is free!

Note that the councy council is reviewing speed limits on all roads and is due to report on the B1049 in February 2009.
